Mattapoisett Woodland Garden

Enthusiastic gardeners on the shore of Buzzard’s Bay recently reclaimed a wooded area of their property and together, we created a contemplative shaded garden there. Necessity had led to removal of diseased oaks and some other trees had come down in storms, sparking the owner’s interest in imagining the space anew.Existing granite formations gave rise to a new curved, dry-laid wall, which wraps its arms around the new beds of Hydrangeas. A circle of bright lawn is bordered by the existing woodland with new ornamental trees and shrubs as well as ferns, Solomon’s Seal and Japanese Forest Grass. This is a quiet, meditative space.
